OUR JOURNEY
DAY 1 | Welcome to Reykjavik On arrival, you’ll be met and
escorted to your hotel for an early breakfast before exploring the city. Your tour takes you through the lively harbor district and along the coast into the colorful Old Quarter with its traditional homes. From the glass-domed Pearl, you’ll have fine views of Reykjavik. Then see the Hofdi House where Reagan and Gorbachev met in 1986, the historic event that effectively ended the Cold War. From here, travelers in summer will also visit the National Museum to learn about Iceland’s history from the medieval days of Viking settlement to the present time; in the winter, our city tour ends at the Northern Lights Center so you can learn more about the science and legends of the Aurora Borealis. Then check in to the Alda Hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner with wine and beer. In the winter, you’ll set out again after dinner
to search for the Northern Lights!

Explore the DAY 2 | Golden Circle
Travel to Thingvellir National
Park, a unique geological site where two tectonic plates meet. On the shores of Lake Thingvallavatn, you’ll see the world’s oldest democratic Parliament, founded more than 1,000 years ago! Then thrill to one of Iceland’s most active geysers and the impressive Golden Waterfall. At a family-owned farm, learn about Icelandic horses and
see how greenhouse vegetables are able to thrive in this northerly climate. Finish your sightseeing in the warm waters of the Fontana Geothermal Baths on the shores of Lake Laugarvatn. meals b+l

In the winter, our guests will fly to Reykjavik in the morning to enjoy a free afternoon in the friendly and vibrant capital. Toast your fellow guests this evening at our farewell dinner in a fine city restaurant and spend the night at the Alda Hotel.

We’ll take you to the airport today for your flight home. If you wish, you can check out a bit earlier and delight in a swim in the famous Blue Lagoon before continuing to the airport. meals b

North to Akureyri
In the summer, travel to Bogarnes where the enlightening exhibits of the Settlement Center offer a look at the fearless Vikings who conquered the open seas to settle Iceland long ago. After lunch in the charming coastal town of Hvammstangi,
see the 19th-century turf homes
at Glaumbaer Farm and admire historic Vidimyri Church. Continue to Akureyri where you’ll enjoy a city tour before checking in to the Hotel Kea.

the evening, embark on a thrilling Super Jeep adventure that ends at the Baths of Myvatn, where you can soak in the soothing mineral-rich waters of the “Blue Lagoon of the North!” The return drive to our hotel offers another chance to see the Northern Lights! This northerly setting and the minimal ambient light here offer great conditions to observe the amazing spectacle of the Aurora Borealis!

Learn about the geothermal forces that have created the amazing sites you’ll visit today including Godafoss Waterfall and the lava formations of the aptly named “Dark Castles.” See the steaming fumaroles of Hverir and an underground river at the Grjotagja rift. Then unwind in a geothermal pool overlooking the surrounding lava fields and scenic Lake Myvatn.
On our winter itinerary, we’ll show you the pristine natural beauty and traditional rural life that distinguish North Iceland’s longest fjord. Exploring the Eyjafjordur coastline, you’ll walk along an untouched black sand beach, spend time in remote fishing villages and visit the unique Herring Era Museum where award-winning exhibits delve into Iceland’s rich seafaring heritage.

Our summer guests will enjoy a free morning to explore the galleries and studios of this culturally vibrant town. In the afternoon, fly to Reykjavik and transfer again to the Alda Hotel.
