DAY 3 | The Westman Islands
As we near this archipelago just off Iceland’s southern coast, keep your eyes sharp for marine birds like the puffin and graceful gannet. We’ll pass close to Surtsey Island  , born of volcanic activity just 50 years ago, to go ashore on Heimaey where a 1973 eruption buried 400 homes under a deep layer of ash. Experience life on the island and see some of the homes that have only recently been excavated. You can learn more of the island’s dramatic history at the Eldheimar Geological Museum. meals b+l+d
